Old Parkland Hospital

Some believe Dallas’s history is its people as opposed to its places. While Dallas is not a very old city it does have its share of historical landmarks and plenty of ghosts.

bulletOld City Park, 1717 Gano St., (214) 421-5141. This park is a recreation of an earlier time in Dallas with several period buildings. The main house that has a restaurant is reportedly haunted. www.oldcitypark.org
bulletSammons Art Center, 3630 Harry Hines Blvd., (214) 520-7788. A beautifully restored, historic building with a haunted elevator. Theatre for the performing arts. www.sammonsartcenter.org
bulletWhite Rock Lake. A  beautiful public park for bikers, joggers, walkers, picnickers and ghosts. The lake is allegedly haunted by a young women who whiled driving home from the prom drove off the rode and drowned in the lake. People report seeing a young women in prom attire walking along side of the road.
bulletThe 6th Floor Museum - In depth, historical account of the Kennedy years including the assassination. Take the taped tour to experience the full impact.
bulletThe Conspiracy Museum  1100 South Market St. (214) 741-3040. Interesting and worth a look.
bulletDeep Ellum - historical area with nightlife of clubs,  bars, and restaurants. Recommend Sambuca Jazz Club for dinner and live entertainment. Must have a reservation. Also, interesting to visit during the day for lunch and limited shopping.
bulletUptown Cemetery's located off Lemmon Ave. at 75 on Hall Street. Freedman's  Slave Cemetery 1860's , Calvary Catholic Cemetery 1891, Emanu-EL Jewish Cemetery 1884, and Greenwood Protestant Cemetery.

bulletNew Amsterdam Coffeehaus, 831 Exposition, Deep Ellum (214) 824-5301. Atmospheric, coffee house with full bar and occasional live music. This coffee house is to Dallas what the Prancing Poney was to Middle Earth in the Lord of The Rings. You may see a dark, stranger puffing a pipe in the corner.

Getting Around:

Rent a car. Public transportation in Dallas is limited and the city is not conducive to walking. Texans like their cars and drive them fast.
